Space law treaties and principles the committee on the peaceful uses of outer space is the forum for the development of international space law the committee has concluded five international treaties and five sets of principles on space related activities. The first five documents in this section are known as the foundation of international space law not all have been widely adopted or utilized but they represent the framework from which future international agreements will stem. The outer space treaty which entered into force in 1967 is indisputably the foundation of all of space law despite being the first space treaty to be adopted by a majority of nations it continues to be the most important document in the field. The international institute of space law iisl is the global association for space law with individual and institutional members from almost 50 countries the iisls key mission is the promotion of further development of space law and expansion of the rule of law in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes
